Still on that Jesse Williams high? Yea me too. whew.

This past weekend I had the privilege to be in the mix of the BET Experience that hosted amazing concerts, fashion shows, pre-awards events and so much more. I admit I was star-struck to the max. One minute I’m watching The Game and Snoop Dogg hoop at the celebrity basketball game and the next I’m walking past Usher getting ready to walk the red carpet. From observing everyone flowing in their purpose and enjoying the events around me, I immediately felt this overwhelming drive to grind harder for what I want out of life.

I saw that inserting yourself into higher environments is exactly what you need to get motivated and this weekend did exactly that for me. Although I enjoyed all the different events I was blown away by the Genius Talks – a candid opportunity to here advice and inspiration from our favorite celebs. While most attendees were turning up,I was in the room with a notepad and leaning in like I was sitting around a campfire story. I ate up EVERYTHING they spoke.

Out of all the talks I was able to sit and enjoy Gabrielle Union and Kirk Franklin who both touched on the art of living in that next-level mindset. It’s so easy to look at celebrities and be envious of their success but through the talks I realized how much they also struggle daily with living in their truth. If you are ready to live in your excellence then here are 3 of Gabrielle and Kirk’s life-changing advice on achieving the next level:

Failures Are The Best Teachers

Kirk Franklin talked about his journey and how the pain he experienced pushed his gift to heights he never imagined. When going for next-level success you have to be vulnerable and embrace the areas that you struggle with.

“When you aren’t consumed with trying to figure it out you will realize that your stumbles are what brings it all together.  I’ll never forget my life-threatening accident that changed everything for me. Right before I released Stomp (one of his biggest hits to date) I fell off stage into a pit that left me in a coma for almost two weeks. I believe that fall represented all my dirt I had to leave behind before I got to the next level. Stomp went #1 five months later.” – Kirk Franklin

Stop Looking for the World To Validate You

We live in a world that makes it so easy to seek approval from our peers instead of trusting your own opinion of yourself. Both Gabrielle and Kirk touched on how seeking approval can be detrimental to our next-level.

“If you screw up there is always an opportunity to get another shot. Learn from your failures, evaluate your life and enjoy the moment.” – Gabrielle Union.

“When I began doing music it was the only thing that made people notice me. By seeking validation I started to feed areas in my life that were already broken. It wasn’t until the applause stopped that I was forced to allow God to mold me into what He wanted for me. You have to be plugged into the Creator. That’s the only way your creations will survive.” – Kirk

Let Go Of Trying to Balance It All

I learned this weekend that the goal is not being able to balance it all but give whatever you are working on your absolute best.

“I often get asked ‘Gabby how do you balance it all?’ I HATE that question. No one every asks my husband how he is able to do everything because society doesn’t uphold men to those standards. If they merely show up they get applause. NO ONE balances it all, I know I sure don’t. I had to stop caring.  I was tired of being lost. I aim to always do better today than yesterday but I refuse to stress out if I don’t hit every area out the park”

I learned that finding that next-level inside of you only comes when you are willing to let go and just love who you are in the moment. Amazing right?
